How much is Ammolite worth and what affects its value
The 5 Pillars of Ammolite Value
1. The Color Palette (Rarity)
-
Red & Green: The most common. Beautiful, but higher supply.
-
Yellow & Gold: Less common, highly sought after for Feng Shui and "wealth" associations.
-
Blue & Violet: The "Holy Grail." These colors only appear in the thinnest, rarest layers of the shell. A flash of deep purple can double the price of a stone instantly.
2. Rotational Range
Does the color "go dark" when you turn the stone?
-
Top Grade: Shows brilliant color through a full 360° rotation.
-
Lower Grade: May look amazing at one angle but turn into a dull brown or grey (dead spot) when tilted 90°.
3. Chromatic Shift
This is how the color moves through the spectrum.
-
Monochromatic: A green stone stays green.
-
Spectro-Chromatic: A red stone shifts to green, then to blue as you tilt it. The more colors a single stone can "reveal," the higher the value.
4. The Pattern
Collectors pay a premium for specific natural "textures" in the stone:
-
Dragon Skin: Scales that look like a mythical creature.
-
Stained Glass: Bold, angular panes of different colors.
-
Floral: Soft, swirling patterns that look like flower petals.
-
Sheet: A rare, smooth, unbroken field of solid color.
5. Brilliance
This is the "electric" factor. High-value Ammolite should look like it is lit from within. If the color looks "muddy" or "foggy," the value drops significantly, even if it has rare colors.
